“Who’s she?” Cooper asked as soon as the door closed behind them.

“You remember my friend, Eden, don’t you? She’s your new girlfriend.”

“She won’t do,” he concluded briskly before he strolled over to his office chair and sat down.

“Of course she will,” Amelia countered.

“Not looking like that, she will. No one will believe I’m dating someone looking so dull.”

Eden felt her annoyance rise even higher. She felt her spine go ramrod. She folded her arms in front of her while she lifted her chin and looked straight into his eyes.

“No one will believe me either, Cooper,” she said icily. “Dating someone so obnoxious.”

His eyes fired with a slight interest. “So, the cat’s got claws. Good for you.”

“And we’re done here. Goodbye,” Eden said and turned to the door.

“Stop!” Cooper ordered from behind her.

Eden paused and turned slowly around. What more insults did he want to add before she left? She stared at him, daring him to do his worst.

“How much?” he asked.

Eden gasped in outrage. “Forget it!”
