Taming the Grump

Enemies to Lovers Erotic Office Romance

What do you do when an ill-mannered grump stands in the way of your best friend’s happiness?

Straight-laced Emmie has the perfect solution: Distraction, play dumb and a lot of fake support calls. Easy-peasy.

There’s only one downside: Emmie has to put herself directly in the line of the fire, making Jake turn his attention to the shy termagant ruining his day.

But what happens when Jake sees through her shenanigans and decides it’s payback time? Particularly when he turns his revenge into a sexual battle, leaving Emmie so hot and bothered that she can’t see straight.

Still, losing is never an option. Even if Emmie must step out of her comfort zone and use every dirty trick she can think of.

But in the end, will she be able to tame the beast – or will he tame her?

“Haven’t you fixed it yet?” Irene asked as she hurried to her desk, deliberately ramping up the pressure.

“Sure. It’s user-related,” Jake said in a bored tone.

“No, it’s not!” Emmie said. “It’s that stupid piece of junk ruining my day.”

“Man, you really need a reboot,” Jake sighed.

“I’m not a man, Jake. And don’t try to blame this disaster on me!” Emmie snorted. The nerve of the man. How dare he talk to her like that?

“Have fun, you two,” Irene said quickly. “I’m heading out for lunch. See you later.” She winked at Emmie as she passed her. “Thanks,” she whispered.

“Okay,” Jake said as if he tried to regain his patience. “Let’s remove the clutter and start with the obvious.” He stepped closer to her.

Emmie eyed him suspiciously. What was he up to now?

Without saying a word, he held her waist and lifted her as if she were light as a feather. She felt his body against hers as he pulled her toward him. She gawked at him, suddenly unsure what was happening. But just as quickly, he sat her down at the far end of her desk before turning toward her computer.

“I beg your pardon! You could have asked nicely instead of moving me around like furniture.” Emmie spluttered in indignation. She felt like spouting fire at the man. How dare he touch her? And with apparent ease. He’d even called her ’clutter’. How could he?

Jake grinned at her, enjoying her indignation. “You took too long.”

“I hope you strained a muscle. Or hurt your back.” Emmie glared at him as she wrapped her arms in front of her chest, gasping for breath at her unexpected treatment. She refused to acknowledge that she enjoyed being swept off her feet by this strong and handsome man.

Jake roared with laughter. Emmie had seldom heard him laugh before, and she was momentarily shocked. She liked the sound of his laughter, even though it was at her expense.

Jake turned and looked at her, his eyes sparkling with laughter. “Don’t count on it, Miss Precious. With a featherweight like you? I’m not a weak computer geek who can barely lift a mouse.”

“Says who?” Emmie challenged him.
