“How’s the patient?” Alicia heard a deep voice ask as she tried to slip away.
She knew the voice only too well, but turned around to ensure it was Warren. It shouldn’t surprise her to see him. He was always around. Particularly when she messed up and needed a shoulder to cry on. Or when she treated any of the alpha enforcers and they tried to force-mate her.
Warren should know that she didn’t need a protector. After all, he had taught her self-defence when ordered to by their Alpha. Initially, Warren had been reluctant to teach her. But he’d still shown the young omega doctor how to protect herself. But what was the point in all the lessons when he never allowed her to practise? Alicia could deal with them. She didn’t need the large alpha at her back.
“I held back. He’s still breathing,” Alicia said sarcastically.
Warren’s eyes darkened as if he knew what Zeeb had said to her. Had he been listening, wondering when to intervene? Alicia felt her anger build at the thought of being watched everywhere she went.
“Haven’t you better things to do than to guard my ass?” Alicia threw back at him.
“Maybe I like to keep your front and rear intact,” Warren said with a smirk.
“There’s no need, Warren,” Alicia sneered. “I could have dealt with him if he tried anything even if he’s an enforcer.”
“It won’t take long before Zeeb stops worrying about his d*ck falling off. And what about all the other alphas lurking around? You’re mistaken if you think they will ignore their instincts out of politeness.”
“The Alpha ordered them to leave me alone,” Alicia reminded him stubbornly.
“Orders will be ignored if they’re faced with an omega going into heat. You should know that, Alicia,” Warren said and looked as if he had no problem reminding her about how foolishly she had once behaved.
Alicia stiffened. She knew her face showed her embarrassment. She knew what he was referring to. He didn’t have to remind her of her mistake. She remembered every tiny detail from that day when she’d offered herself to him and how quickly he’d turned her down.
